At Hurstmere provision for Special Educational Needs is seen as a whole school issue and we aim for a curriculum where learning activities can be undertaken at a variety of levels and in a variety of different ways to meet individual needs.
Pupils with recognised needs are supported across the curriculum, by a team of teaching assistants, who also supervise additional literacy and numeracy sessions and monitor individual programmes of work. We do all we can to ensure that every child will leave school with the core skills of literacy, numeracy and social independence.
We make every effort to identify, assess, support and review pupils’ special educational needs in line with the SEN Code of Practice, whilst helping our pupils to appreciate their individual strengths and to develop their potential. It is important that each child feels valued within the school community and is fully included in school activities.
All subject teachers and learning support assistants have a role in meeting special educational needs and we are keen to involve parents at every stage in any plans made to meet a child’s special needs.
