Hurstmere - 'School of Rock'Hurstmere was dubbed ‘School of Rock’ on 11th July when the Summer concert provided a fitting finale for the Music Department’s amazing year. The audience were treated to a range of individual performances, a Samba band, GCSE Year 10 collaborations and Studio Fix bands and choir. Pupils ranging from Year 7 to Year 11 entertained parents, families, staff and Governors with cover versions and original songs. The Year 7 Samba band highlighted just a small part of what they have learnt during their first year at Hurstmere and how enjoyable their lessons have been. ‘SoundWavez’, ‘Dynamix’, ‘Surviverz’ and ‘Phoenix’ performed songs they had written and recorded during their Studio Fix sessions. The Year 10 GCSE group showcased musicians and singers – and a touch of dancing! – proving how hard they have worked during the first year of their course and just how much they enjoy it. Adam, a Year 11 pupil, surprised the audience with an exciting Jimi Hendrix experience including playing his guitar behind his head. Harmony Army, the Studio Fix choir, produced a rousing performance of their Music For Youth National Festival songs – ‘Radioactive’, ‘The Sound’ and ‘Here I Am’, the song written and produced to support the 40th Anniversary of The Alzheimer’s Society. It is always great to welcome back ex-pupils to Hurstmere and we were delighted that Mason and Joe returned to provide musical support and that Gary used his technical expertise and knowledge to manage the sound desk and PA system. Huge thanks went to Mr Ballard, Head of Music, and Mr Gilbert our Musician in Residence, along with staff behind the scenes that made the evening such a great success.
